(10/15/2008) By Jeniffer Berry - A Hastings man facing excommunication is headed to Utah to speak with the heads of his church. Andrew Callahan is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–day Saints. He said he disagrees with a political issue the church is supporting.

It is publicly backing an amendment that would eliminate same–sex marriage in California.

Callahan helped start a petition to show that he and other members are upset that the church would be so involved with a political issue.
He plans to personally deliver hundreds of letters and signatures in support of his petition to the church headquarters.

"We might just end up mailing them, but we would like to just show up in person and show we are honest, hard–working, respectable people trying to do the right thing," said Callahan.

Callahan has a disciplinary hearing in November. He could possibly be excommunicated from the Church.
